“I contend that we (engineers) are undervalued because of our widespread inability to explain what we do to the general public (and why it is so important). It is one of the hardest goals to accomplish, to be able to boil down difficult concepts into a short and easily understood presentation or elevator pitch.” Marybeth Miceli, President, Miceli Infrastructure Consulting, USA (2011)

This short paragraph expresses the viewpoint of an engineer, where she thinks that this widespread inability to effectively communicate the nature and significance of engineering work to the general public is the key factor contributing to the undervalued of engineers, as it is challenging to break down complex concepts into a concise and easily comprehensible presentation or elevator pitch for people who do not have an engineering background.

Critical Reflection

Throughout my journey in this communications course, I've discovered aspects of myself and my communication skills that i was ignorant towards. Looking back on the goals I've set since the start of the course, I can evaluate my progress and pinpoint areas for further improvement. I have mentioned earlier that one of my primary objectives was to enhance my ability to recognize social cues in communication. after this course, i have noticed significant progress that aspect. My ability present and pitch has evolved; I became more aware of my body language and tone of speech. This shift was just about adopting a more confident stance or a concise tone, it is also about tapping into the nuances of non-verbal cues and adjusting my voice to appeal to a wider audience. I also have learned to avoid using certain words and phrases in my presentations in order to avoid creating a negative impression, demonstrating my awareness of the impact my words have in a professional setting. Another...

The Webpage “Overture” from Boom Supersonic (n.d) introduces the in-development supersonic jet-liner the Boom Overture. The Overture has a flight range of 4250    nautical miles (7867km) and a cruising altitude of 60k Ft. According to Boom Supersonic (n.d), The structural integrity of the overture comprises of all-composite aerostructures, hence being able to support the contoured fuselage and its gull wings for increase aerodynamic efficiency. The landing gear system is designed to be compatible with all airport runways and taxiways across the globe. The flight control and hydraulic system of the overture has an active sidestick control and three primary flight control on board computers. these computers  use a predefined flight plan to calculate and display an aircraft's lateral and vertical trajectory, providing guidance throughout the flight , including an additional fourth one for additional safety. In terms of the hydraulics, the Overture features a triple redundant...

The fuel system of the aircraft is designed to provide a centre of gravity control especially during subsonic and superso...
